Mariner

An early draft of for my “Ancient Mariner”print; originally, this started as a drawing of Odysseus tied to the mast, mad from the Sirens’ song, but a Romanticist friend of mine convinced me to add an albatross. You can probably tell that it was a quick addition; you can see the Mariner’s arms and the ropes through the bird’s wings. This actually gives the bird a ghostly character that I like, but will be pretty much impossible to realize in a linocut. Also, I didn’t learn until later just how big albatrosses get . . . some have ten-foot wingspans. Also check out the final print.
